Lets try to install Mio Spirit on old Navman

Lets see how hard can it be.

Basic Installation

Place the Mio Spirit application files and folders in a new folder called [Spirit] in the Navman's main storage area.

Add the map (cpf), and the map (lic) files in [Storage Card/Spirit]: where Storage Card is the main storage location for your device.
Add the LanguagePack (cpf) files directly in [Storage Card/Spirit] also.

Configuration

The Spirit.ini file holds the main configuration data for the software. The software should be able to detect your hardware GPS settings automatically after a few minutes, so it's fine just to leave the Found= setting blank. Below you will find the contents of a basic Spirit.ini file.

[Main]
ExitButton=1
IAccept=1
Home=1
[GPS]
Found=
[Advisor]
language=

On this page I want to keep the Spirit.ini file as simple and as short as possible. These few basic settings should get Mio Spirit working on all devices. Listing detailed configurations for each device would make this tutorial too long and confusing. If you wish to discuss detailed configurations for specific devices, then please visit our forum.

Adding Maps

Map files, both (lic) and (cpf) are added directly to the [Spirit] folder. Some maps may come with an (org) file which should be placed in the same location.

Junction View (optional)
Junction View data files (ending with jv.cpf and jv.lic) should also be place in the same location as the maps. For Juction View to work, Juction View data and map data files must share the same version number. Maps can be used without Junction View data, so if you don't have them don't worry.

If you want to place all the map files in a sub folder, you will have to add the line MapDir= to the Spirit.ini file, with the name of the folder you wish to use following the equal sign.

Important
Use the correct maps with this software. Many of the maps designed for Miomap 2008 and Mireo viaGPS wont work with Mio Spirit. If Spirit won't load you're probably using the wrong maps.

Travel Book - Wcities Guides (optional)

Wcities Guide files come in two parts (cpf) and (lic). Place both these files into a subfolder called [Guides] inside the main [Spirit] folder. If you don't have both the (cpf) and (lic) guide files the Travel Book icon will not appear on Spirit's main menu.

Adding Speed Cam data (optional)

Keep the [SpeedCam] folder empty until you know the Spirit software is running successfully with your maps.
Just like guide data, SpeedCam data usually comes in two separate files (.cpf) and (.lic). From these two files the Moov Spirit software will automatically generate an (.fsr) file. Because this process can take up to five minutes, it might appear that the software's loading sequence has failed (device will appear to be stuck at eight white squares on the progress bar). Once the .fsr file is generated MioMoov Spirit will load much faster thereafter.

Launch MioMoov Spirit.

To load MioMoov Spirit double click the spirit.exe file. On the right side of the screen you will see two coloured squares. Don't press these until the software has finished loading.

Red - Top Right: takes you to the Capture Location screen
Cyan - Bottom Right: takes you back to the Main Menu screen.

Plugin applications

By adding a [Plugins] section to Spirit.ini , Moov Spirit will allow you to launch external applications from within the software's main menu. Thus far, I know of 4 buttons which can be enabled on the menu screen via Spirit.ini
[Plugins]
MediaPlayer=?????
MioMore=?????
LocalSearch=?????
AVIN=?????

Where ????? is the PATH to the program you wish to launch within Spirit.

EG: to launch the shincoplayer media player application from the location [Storage Card\ShincoPlayer\] via the Music button you would use.
MediaPlayer=\Storage Card\ShincoPlayer\shincoplayer.exe

Notes:

  • Being stuck at 8 white squares on the loading screen may also be an indication that you are using the wrong type of maps with this software.
  • This tutorial was designed for Mio Spirit Build 2.5.3276732. I cannot say if it will work for later builds of the software.
