8 Ways to Revive Your Old Posts

If you’ve been blogging for over 6 months (and posting content regularly), you have in your possession pure gold in your archives. But because of how blogs work, that gold is not being seen.
You have to continue posting new pieces of content on your blog so that your traffic and audience can continue to grow, but you realize that the post you spent days writing is now sitting in a pool of unread articles.
I suggest bringing life back to those blog posts and I’m gonna share with you 8 ways you can do that. Why would you want to?  Well, simply because your old content is “new” to all of your new visitors.
The same holds true for your new Twitter followers and Facebook fans that found you weeks and months after you wrote the post.
So here are the 8 ways to revive your old posts:

Improve Post SEO

You can add the All in One SEO Pack wordpress plugin (if you haven’t done so already) and make some simple changes that can send you more search engine traffic.
Things like the title and description may impact how well your blog posts rank. Maybe you can even build some links back to your blog post to help it rank higher.

Add a Call To Action

Sharing valuable content by itself is great, but getting your audience to take action because of that content is even better. Your call to action can be as simple as “leave a comment” or “check out this other post”.
Some other calls to action include “buy this now” and “click here to hire me”. If your content relates to a product, service or post that you have, ask you readers to take action – it won’t hurt.

Record a YouTube Video

Here’s a quick and easy way to bring life, and traffic back to old posts. (I recorded 6 videos in one day when I did this)
Step 1: Pick 5 blog posts.
Step 2: Open your screen recording software of choice.
Step 3: Record the blog post and talk about the main points within the blog post.
Step 4: Repeat until all posts are done.
Step 5: Upload to YouTube. You’re done!

Convert Them to PDF

If the other methods of reviving your blog posts weren’t easy enough, this one surely takes the cake. All you have to do is copy and paste 8 to 10 articles from your archives (preferably the most popular ones) and paste them into a word document.
Then create an introduction, and a nice cover and give it away along side your lead magnet to further entice visitors to sign up to your email list. Or you can just give it away in a blog post. =)

Link to It From Newer Posts

Internal linking is sometimes brushed aside since plugins like YARPP,Popular Posts and Random Posts exists. But don’t rely only on those plugins to do the internal linking for you.
You should link to at least 2 of your old posts every time you press publish so that your visitors can continue to circulate around your blog. They also get much more value from reading more of your stuff.

Share It on Social Media Sites

Like I said earlier, your Twitter following and Facebook following will continue to grow as your blog grows. It’s unlikely that most of your new fans and followers will go back months into your archives and start reading articles you wrote in 2010.
This is why you have to take it upon yourself to let them know about these posts. Retweet them and share them regularly and the traffic to these posts will increase.

Re-work the Headline

Nine times out of  ten you can improve responses by reworking the headline of an old post. If you’ve been studying the art of copywriting, you know what it takes to entice people to click and read a post.
You understand now that compelling, benefit-driven headlines work better than creative headlines. So here’s what you do. Pick a blog post. Rework the headline and then share it on Twitter & Facebook and enjoy the results. =)

Mention it in a Podcast Episode

This is similar to internal linking but without the blue underlined hyperlink. If you’re running a podcast on your blog, be sure to talk about your older posts so that your listeners can go back to your blog and look for them.
This, again, will not only increase traffic but also increase the amount of value you’re sharing with your audience.
