NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to the September edition of the Springboard Series Insider. Like many of you, we took a small break for the summer, but now it's time to settle down and get "back to school" by catching up with the latest developments in the world of Windows, Internet Explorer, Office, Windows Intune, and the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack. Here are a few quick announcements and new resources to get you started.
Last month, we launched MDOP 2011 R2 and the Windows Intune July 2011 Beta, both featuring tons of cool new features. Check out A.J.'s article below for details on key changes and innovations in MDOP 2011 R2 plus links to videos and walkthroughs, and see the list of resources below to help familiarize you with the Windows Intune July 2011 Beta. In August, we also debuted a new Windows Thin PC area under "Operating System Virtualization" in our Desktop Virtualization Zone on TechNet. What is Windows Thin PC? Find out with the new resources listed below, and stay tuned for videos, blogs posts, and more in the near future.
Also in this month's newsletter is an article on how to discover 16-bit applications before migrating to Windows 7 64-bit edition from Swedish Microsoft MVP Andreas Stenhall, a quick tip on speeding up boot time with Xbootmgr.exe, and a thorough list of recommendations and resources to help you ready and train your end users for Office 2010.
I also want to send out a huge thanks to Jessica DeVita and the over 100 of you who came out to my "Windows Deployment from ACT to ZTI" session in July in Los Angeles. It was great to see all of you. Now, without any further delay, let's jump into this month's Insider!
